Who can attend Koru Camp?
Koru Camp works with NGOs, community organisations, schools, and other educational partners. Most of our camps are designed for local communities and young people, but we also offer blended programmes, leadership camps, and specialist training experiences for all ages.
Where is Koru Camp located?
Koru Camp is situated within the Mvuu Private Nature Reserve in Limpopo, South Africa, forming part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem.
How do I get to Koru Camp?
Access to Koru Camp is through Jejane Gate, about 10 minutes outside of Hoedspruit. From there, you can elect to self-drive or arrange a pick-up with our team in the game viewer. The drive from the gate to camp is roughly one hour and 15 minutes on an accessible dirt road.
What is included in a camp?
Camps typically include accommodation, all meals, guided game drives, and educational activities from our designated curriculum.
What is the minimum and maximum number of participants?
The camp can sleep 24 people in 12 comfortable dome tents. We typically accept a minimum group size of 10 participants, and a maximum of 22 – plus 2 facilitators.
How much does a camp cost?
Our subsidised NGO rate is R450 per person per night. Blended camps cost R1,500 per person per night, which also covers the subsidised fee for one local community member to attend. Some specialist camps may require an additional fee depending on the programme structure and level of facilitation required.
What are blended camps?
Blended camps bring together students from private schools and local communities of a similar age through our NGO partners. By learning and experiencing nature together, participants gain new perspectives and build meaningful connections.
Are camps safe?
Yes. Koru Camp has both safety and safeguarding policies in place, at least two trained first aiders on site at all times, and emergency medical evacuation cover by helicopter if required. The camp is also surrounded by an electric fence.
What ages are your camps suitable for?
Our programmes can be adapted for a wide range of ages, from upper primary school learners through to adults. Specific learning pathways may have recommended age groups.
Can programmes be customised?
Yes. Alongside our structured learning pathways, we have a diverse curriculum of over 50 educational activities which can be used to create your own camp. We can also adapt activities or develop bespoke camps to align with the goals of your organisation or group.
Can international groups attend?
Yes. We welcome international schools, universities, organisations, and specialist groups whose values align with our mission. These typically occur through our blended camps model, offering a unique and enriching opportunity for both international visitors and our local communities.
Can I visit Koru Camp as a tourist?
Koru Camp is not a traditional safari lodge and does not operate as a tourism accommodation venue. Our camp is dedicated to hosting local communities. In order to respect their experience, we do not permit tourist visits. However, guests staying at our partner lodge, Sashwa River of Stars, may be afforded a tour whilst the camp is empty to learn more about what we do.
How can I become a Koru Camp partner organisation?
We welcome partnerships with NGOs, schools, universities, training providers, conservation organisations, and private entities whose values align with our mission. Some partners join us to host camps and educational programmes for their beneficiaries, while others collaborate through specialist training, shared initiatives, volunteering opportunities, or long-term strategic support.
