Celebrating Mandela Day: A Community Cleanup in Hoedspruit

In a heartfelt tribute to Nelson Mandela, our community came together on Mandela Day, July 18th, to make a tangible difference in Hoedspruit. The team from My Africa initiated an inspiring cleanup campaign, pledging to donate R450 for every bag of rubbish collected. The goal was simple yet powerful: to unite the community in a shared effort to preserve the beauty of our conservation town.

Inviting locals to dedicate two hours of their day, the response was nothing short of amazing. Individuals, families, and friends stepped up, armed with gloves and bags, ready to tackle the litter that had accumulated in our surroundings. The spirit of ubuntu was palpable as participants worked together, sharing laughter and stories while contributing to a worthy cause.

Together, we collected an impressive 82 bags of rubbish, showcasing the incredible impact that community action can achieve. It was a beautiful sight to see our town transformed and our natural spaces respected. This initiative not only resulted in a cleaner environment but also raised valuable funds for Koru Camp , where underprivileged communities can engage in immersive wildlife experiences.

The funds generated from this initiative will allow Koru Camp to continue its mission of fostering a love for nature among those who may not have the chance to experience it otherwise. The connection between conservation and community is vital, and this cleanup was a perfect example of how we can work together for both.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to My Africa for spearheading this initiative and to every volunteer who participated. Your dedication and passion embody the spirit of Mandela Day—making a difference through collective action and true love for our community.

As we reflect on this successful event, let’s carry forward the values of compassion and service, ensuring that Hoedspruit remains a clean and vibrant place for all. Together, we have shown that by coming together for a common cause, we can create lasting change.
