For those unfamiliar, this multi-award-winning documentary follows 41 aspiring rangers as they undergo a gruelling mental and physical journey to join the frontlines of wildlife conservation, inspired by the legendary Anton Mzimba. Tragically, Mzimba’s passing during the filming transformed ‘Rhino Man’ into his legacy as well. A passionate advocate for wildlife and posthumous winner of the 2022 Game Ranger of the Year at the African Conservation Awards, Mzimba dreamed of a world where children from disadvantaged communities could reconnect with their natural heritage. He envisioned a future where poverty no longer separates communities from nature, and where any child can aspire to become a wildlife guardian.
In Johannesburg, heartfelt speeches by Matt Lindenberg and Orlat Ndlovu, Head Ranger of Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, led to an emotional round of applause honouring the sacrifice of rangers who could not be with us. Meanwhile, across the globe in London, a raffle of fantastic prizes lightened the mood, with Dermot from Connected Planet reflecting that, “the film received such positive feedback, and many left feeling inspired to make a change.” The air was filled with a tangible sense of hope, even as it was tinged with reverence for those we’ve lost along the way.
At Koru Camp, we extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made these incredible events possible, and to the 150 generous attendees who joined us. Thanks to your support, we raised over R56,000! Every cent will go directly towards sending disadvantaged young nature lovers from GCC’s Future Rangers Programme to Koru Camp, giving them a chance to experience the wonders of nature firsthand.
